Ah, now that brings back some memories! How much would it cost me to buy this engine these days?

Hi David
It's a very low time one David, had just enough running to start bedding in the rings, but not enough to stain the inside of the exhaust port or piston crown. No mounting marks whatsoever and still has the original KLG plug.
I'd like Aud $350 for it or a very near offer. Just the jobbie for vintage B (all ETA's are legal) or how about a Vintage B speed model? I'd consider trading.
Cheers John

Lovely engine the ETA 29 6c.
A little history for anybody that cares.
Ron Churnich mentioned to me some years ago that the 6c was out of production in about 1968.
I never knew this at the time and when my brother in law went to the UK for a trip in 1972, I ask him if he could go to the ETA factory and buy a 6c for me.
Buying one about 4 years after production was finished was no problem......it arrived back in Australia some 12 months later with a typed letter signed by Ken Bedford the main man there, giving the fuels and propeller sizes.
I never got around to using it though......just did a lot of navel gazing. LOL.
'77-'78 saw the real start of Aussie Freeflight Vintage here with engines to be pre. '55 (It's now pre. '57 by the way). The ETA was too new for our Vintage so I swapped it for a Dooling 29 in 1978 that went into a Hyphen, an Aussie design of 80in span.

I wonder if this ETA is my old one as I believe it ended up in Sydney in the 80s still unrun.

KMD still available?

BTW isn't the 6c lapped?

Good question, not sure if the ETA 6C was actually a lapped engine, does anyone know? They actually took a long time to run in sometimes, just getting the rings to bed in so they made even contact on the bore was the deal. The ETA did not hit peak performance for Teamrace until this little task was completed. Ken is still around I think, if anyone wants to ask him. ;)

The Eta 6C was (is) a ringed motor. It had an alloy piston and two rings. It also had a very unusual little end using a phosphor bronze gudgeon pin and a thin steel sleeve separating the gudgeon and the bush in the con rod little end.

Can remember rings in mine 4 sure. Were there any ETA 29s with lapped pistons from the factory though?

I know the American McCoy 29 that I'm sure the ETA was copied off, had both ringed and lapped pistons at various times.
I do have believe it or not a really good CS McCoy 29 replica with a lapped piston that starts first flick and goes like the clappers......It's in a Sorcerer Class B Team Racer that we won a race with 10 years ago.
