History of a 37 foot Duncanson Capella sailing ketch named Nova Vida, her equipment, cruising destinations and crew whilst based in Maryborough, Queensland, Australia.
Nova Vida was once owned by Maryborough resident David Kidd, who purchased her late in 2004 to satisfy an ambition to cruise Pacific Ocean islands such as New Caledonia and later, hopefully, the world. The boat had already completed a circumnavigation of the globe (in 1985-'87 with the Jimenez family) so she had proved herself capable. Her circumnavigation is described in more detail on our history page and in the book "Cruising Australians" by Alan Lucas. Updating of this website ceased after Nova Vida was sold to new owner Victor Martin, in February 2007.
The photos currently on this page show the boat late in 2004, as she was when advertised for sale at Mooloolaba. More are included on the below deck page. Other pictures are included on the voyages pages, added as we described the cruising adventures aboard Nova Vida.
"Nova Vida" is Portugese that translates into English as "New Views". It's probably as appropriate a name as you can get for a cruising yacht. Nova Vida is registered on the Australian shipping register with the official number 385262. Her radio callsign is VKV3017.
Regular crew comprised owner David Kidd, assisted by occasional First Mate, Ray Stockdale. Nova Vida comfortably accommodates three people when cruising, so opportunities existed for casual crew to joined the boat on her cruises. Some of those who joined our crew for a while are pictured on our crew page.
The sailing adventures of Captain Kidd after Nova Vida was sold early in 2007 are described on this page.
